Thomas Cleo "Tom" Smith

Thomas Cleo “Tom” Smith, 83, of Mulberry, passed away Monday, September 22, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Frankfort on July 3, 1942, to Melvin and Mabel (Ruch) Smith. He married Denise Rojewski on July 10, 2004. She preceded him in passing on February 21, 2025.

Tom was a graduate of Rossville High School. He worked several jobs over his years including, a local gas station, Fairfield for 3 years, and then Lafayette Instrument Company for 55 years. He was a member of the Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years with 23 years of service as chief, First Responder with Mulberry Ambulance for 10 years, and Mulberry Masonic Lodge. He was a gifted piano player, by ear. Tom would describe himself as a workaholic, spending most of his time working and at the fire department. He would enjoy camping when he did get away. He was very proud of the things he had done with his life, all that he accomplished, and his family, but he wasn’t one to brag about it. He just did what was expected, and glad to do it.

Tom is survived by his children, Kent (Kelli) Smith, Kimberly (John) Hitch, Allen (Kristina) Smith; stepdaughter, Danielle (Quentin) Mullen; siblings, Sharon (Bill) Rogers and Max (Michele) Smith; a grandson that he helped raise, Wylyn Gould; fourteen grandchildren; 22 and a half great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Along with his wife of nearly 21 years, he was preceded in death by his parents and one great grandchild, Jameson.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 3, 2025, from 4-7pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Mulberry Chapel. Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 4, at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rossville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department.
