Robert Junior “Bob” Wilkin, 89, of Lafayette, formerly of Frankfort, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Creasy Springs Health Campus. He was born at home September 18, 1935, in Clinton County to Robert Chesney and Edith Susan (Elkins) Wilkin. The doctor came to the house and his father administered the anesthesia. He married Alberta Jean Hosier on December 31, 1977, in Frankfort, and she survives.
He grew up on his parents’ small farm and was a farm boy at heart. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Jefferson. He then enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington, Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and Fort Ord in California. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball in his younger years. He worked for Ross Gear/TRW for 30 years until he retired. He then worked for Clinton County as Building Inspector for 15 years. He was a baptized believer and was a member of Rossville Bible Fellowship. He was also a member of the Frankfort Eagles Lodge where he helped run the Eagles Golf League for years. He was an avid fan of Purdue sports, enjoyed remodeling homes and loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife of 46 years, Bob is survived by his son, Kent Allen Wilkin; stepson, B. Dale (Debra) Luper; siblings, Carolyn (Melvin) Dunham of Frankfort, Phillip (Marta) Wilkin of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Patrica Jane Duiser of Lafayette, and Barbara Julien of Kent City, Michigan; step-grandchildren, Sarah Irene (Cory) Marsh, and David R. (Breanna) Luper III; and step-great-grandchildren, David Rollin Luper IV, Wakely Emmaclara Marsh, Kolben JM Luper, and Memphis Lee Marsh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, David Rollin Luper, Jr.; sibling, John Wilkin; brother-in-law, Dale Julien; and the mother of his son, Sally (Foster) Rogers.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 1pm until the time of the service at 3pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Pastor Chris Albin will officiate. Burial will follow at Bunnell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob’s honor may be made to Rossville Bible Fellowship. Messages of condolence may be left at www.dayandgenda.com.
