Richard "Rick" Root

Richard “Rick” Eugene Root, 76, of Rossville, passed away Friday, June 27, 2025, at Franciscan Health South in Indianapolis. He was born March 29, 1949, in Logansport, to John & Anne Belle (Wagoner) Root. He first married Marjorie Beery, June 14, 1970. She preceded him in passing on August 17, 2001. He later married Joyce Miller- Hufford on May 11, 2002. And she survives.

Rick was a graduate of Rossville High School in 1967. He worked as a cabinet maker and installer for Zinn Kitchens, farmed, and was an appliance repairman until he retired in 2011. He was a faithful member of Middle Fork Old German Baptist Brethren Church. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, making handcrafted aggravation and domino games, traveling and wintering in Florida with his wife. Rick loved putting on fish fries for friends, family, and church. He was known for his direct exterior at times but had a kind spirit and heart. His fun-loving personality and his storytelling will be missed.

Along with his wife of 23 years, Rick is survived by his children, John (Sherry) Root, Jennifer (Chris) Denlinger, Loren (Denise) Root, Brian (Carla) Hufford, Tammy (Mike) Sandefur, Randy (Jerusha) Hufford; sister-in-law, Julia Root; 22 grandchildren and their spouses; and nine great grandchildren.

Along with his first wife, Rick was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Kathy Hufford; brother Gene Root; two grandchildren, Landon and Caleb Root.

Visitation will be held, Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 2-5pm and 6-8pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Bodine Chapel. Funeral service will be held 10am Monday, June 30 at Middle Fork Old German Baptist Brethren Church. Burial will follow at Middle Fork Old German Baptist Brethren Church.
