Nicholas Tate “Nick” Smith, 40, of Delphi, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025. He was born March 15, 1985, in Monticello to Larry and Audrey Tinkle. He married Chad Smith on May 2, 2011, and he survives.
Nick was a graduate of Twin Lakes High School, class of 2003. He went to Ivy Tech to get a degree in Mortuary Science. He worked as a trade embalmer over the years, sharing his artistic talent and care for loved ones, helping them have a pleasant lasting memory as families would say their final farewells. He worked for several funeral homes, including Miller-Roska Funeral Home, Day & Genda Funeral Home, and Gundrum Funeral Home. He was a member of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association.
Nick loved to travel all over the world with his husband and friends. Every year they planned adventures, experiencing life to the fullest. He was outgoing and friendly and was always glad to share his thoughts and opinions, whether asked for or not. He had a big heart and loved others fiercely. It showed in his love for his family, his husband, his friends, and the families and loved ones that he cared for. His special skill and heart will truly be missed.
Along with his husband of 14 years, Nick is survived by his mother and two brothers Shane Hartley (Wife Roxanne) and Chad Hartley; and close friends that he considered his brothers and sisters, Troy Moore, Gabe & Brooke Quaglio, Mary Ballard, Beau Shade, Augustine & Dave McAdams, Lee & Laronda Lohmeyer, Rachael & Nate Plantenga, and Rissa Halsema
He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 11am until the time of the service at 1pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Burial will take place in Friendship, Tennessee next to his father on Monday, October 20, 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nick’s honor to the family to assist with funeral arrangements. Messages of condolence may be left at www.dayandgenda.com.
