Marlene E. Ramsey, 92, of Lebanon, formerly of Flora, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025, at her residence. She was born September 21, 1932, in Miami County to Lawrence and B. Pearl (Coleman) Mays. She married Don E. Ramsey on June 24, 1951, at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. He preceded her in passing on March 17, 2017.
Marlene was a graduate of Bunker Hill High School, class of 1950. She worked for Montgomery Ward in Peru, then at the school as manager of the cafeteria in Flora until 1981. She then worked as secretary at Yeager & Sullivan until her retirement in 1999. She was a member of Radnor United Methodist Church until 2008 when they moved to Lebanon and joined Centenary United Methodist Church. She was active in her church, a member of the Camden American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post 0413, and Kiwanis. She enjoyed cooking and hosting family gatherings, traveling, camping, watching sporting events, especially the Cubs, Pacers, Fever, IU and Colts, and playing card games. One of Marlene’s favorite events was when their dear friends from her husband’s time in the Army, would get together twice a year and spend time together. She was also part of the founding group of the “Cougar Paws” fundraiser for the Music Boosters at the Carroll County Fair. Marlene loved her family and enjoyed participating with and supporting her children, nieces and nephews in their endeavors. She will be remembered for her hospitality and enjoyment she got from serving and helping others.
Marlene is survived by her son, Mark Ramsey of Peru; daughter, Susan (husband Jon) Willard of Zionsville. Also surviving is their exchange student daughter Patty (husband Augustin Romero) Guzman and their sons, Rodrigo and Diego (wife Laura) Romero Guzman and their son, Geronimo, all of Colombia, South America.Along with her husband of 65 years, Marlene is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Carl Mays and Rex Mays.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 1pm until the time of the service at 3pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Reinke Chapel in Flora. Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery. Maryjo Meek will officiate the services. Memorial contributions may be made in Marlene’s honor to Camden American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post 0413.
