Lois "Aleta" Gillum

Lois “Aleta” Gillum, 95, of Frankfort, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019, at Aperion Care in Frankfort.  She was born April 16, 1923, in Yuma County, Colorado, to Vernon and Ethel (Jones) Sheldon.  On December 23, 1942, she married Simon Albert Gillum; he preceded her in death on May 19, 2006.

Aleta graduated high school from Bible College school in Colorado Springs.  She was a homemaker who enjoyed her family and helping to raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Aleta had been a member of the Wesleyan Church since 1950.

Surviving Aleta are her children, Yvonn Hale, of Michigantown, Alice (Walter) Wilson, of Daleville, Evelyn Whipple, of West Lafayette, and Vernon (Rebecca) Gillum, of Kokomo; 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Aleta is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, LaVern Sheldon; one great grandchild, and one great, great grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at First Wesleyan Church in Frankfort, from 11:00 a.m. to the start of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort.  Memorials in Aleta’s name may be made to Gideon’s International.  Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, with online condolences directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
