Joy D. (Wolf) Howard

Joy D. Howard, 91, of Frankfort, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Hoosier Village in Zionsville. She was born in Chalmers on September 15, 1933, to Adlai W. and Mary Jane (Woods) Wolf, Sr. She married Donald “Dick” Howard on September 18, 1955. He preceded her in passing on December 15, 2006.

Joy was a graduate of Reynolds High School, class of 1952. She attended Butler University and graduated from Indiana Business College. She began her working career at Purdue University, later moving to People’s Life Insurance Company. She spent her most enjoyable working years at Frankfort Senior High School as the Guidance Department Secretary. She mothered many students during those years. Following retirement she worked at the City Clerk Treasurer’s Office. Joy was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Clinton County Retired Secretaries, Clinton County Retired Teachers, Women of the Moose and the Concern Group of the First Christian Church. Joy enjoyed many years singing in the church choir, attending Red Barn Theatre, and the Indianapolis Symphony. She also enjoyed many rounds of golf and the Stagette Group at the Frankfort Country Club.

Joy is survived by her children, Eric Howard and Lori (Jeff) Simnick, grandson, Tyler Simnick; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband of 51 years, she was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers, Adlai, Jr., Merrill, Charles, Burdell “Rusty,” George, and Roger.

Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 10am until the time of the service 12pm at St. Matthew Methodist Church. Pastor Darin Hendry will officiate. Joy will be laid to rest with her husband at K of P Cemetery in Chalmers at 3pm on Saturday. Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort is assisting with the arrangements.
