Irma J. Cook, 89, of Cutler, was called home to the Lord July 26, 2025. Irma was born to the late Paul & Ethel Bowman Clem on April 26, 1936, in Carroll County Indiana. Irma was the youngest of five siblings and lived in Rochester, Idaville, Brookston, before settling in Cutler Indiana.

After graduating from Cutler High School in 1954, she worked at National Homes until her marriage to Mark ‘Mick’ Cook on January 8, 1955. They moved to St. Charles, Missouri where she worked for Ozark Airlines. A year later they moved back to Indiana and she became mother to three daughters. She helped Joe Cook with the Democrat Township records and was a server at the Cutler Café. Starting in 1970 she worked at Payne’s Pharmacy for almost 30 years and then part-time at Sears in Lafayette.

Irma was a member and past president of the Indiana Rural Letter Carrier Association Auxiliary and served as state president and as a delegate to the national convention.

Irma was an active member of Cutler Presbyterian Church. She served as one of the first female elders, was treasurer for many years, taught Sunday School and helped with youth group. She also served many years as treasurer for the Carroll County Democrats, the Adams Mill Covered Bridge restoration, and treasurer/record keeper for Ball Hill Cemetery Association.

Later she learned to crochet and made blankets for all the great grandchildren. In addition, she crocheted and donated many blankets to the Kokomo Rescue Mission along with her friend, Bon Sheagley.

Irma loved spending time with Mick, their 3 daughters, 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 33 nieces and nephews. She also loved hunting morel mushrooms each spring.

She is survived by her three daughters: Terri (Dean) Sink of Flora, Tami Johanningsmeier of New Albany and Toni Cook of Cutler. Five grandchildren: Ryan Sink, Sara Underhill (Chris), Scott (Jennifer) Johanningsmeier, Susan (Ben) Smith and Lisa Johanningsmeier. Six great-grandchildren: Kyle and Kaci Underhill, Rachel and Rebecca Johanningsmeier, Hannah and Heidi Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings-Robert Clem, M. Maxine North, Charles Clem, and Rita Hutton.

The Cook Family invites friends to visit Friday, August 1, 2025, at Day & Genda Funeral Home-Reinke Chapel, 103 N Center Street, Flora, IN 46929 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. A Celebration of Irma Cook’s Life will be held at the Cutler Presbyterian Church Saturday, August 2, at 2:00pm with calling 2 hours prior. Irma’s grandson Pastor Scott Johanningsmeier and Rev. Lee McReynolds will officiate. Burial to follow at Ball Hill Cemetery. Our family wants to thank all the loving caregivers for Irma from Comfort Keepers and from Franciscan Hospice. Memorials may be given in Irma’s name to Franciscan Hospice or the Dementia Society, www.demintiasociety.org
